Connecting artisans with designers
India, and especially Odisha, has a rich tradition of handicraft and performing artisans.
The various artisan groups in the state have kept their handicraft techniques alive for centuries. It is our endeavour to help these artisans find new connoisseurs and evangelists through Saptasajya Festival.
Saptasajya Festival 2022 will focus on traditional crafts
Dhokra is an indigenous metal casting artform prevalent in various rural, tribal belts of India. Non-ferrous metals are cast into hollow moulds prepared using lost wax technique.
We will continue to experiment by mixing unconventional mediums with Dhokra, to craft beautiful animal figurines and other artwork.
Tarakasi or silver filigree work is a celebrated art form that dates back to over 500 years. An integral part of Odiya cultural heritage, Tarakasi is known for intricate designs.
Our focus will be on creating modern Tarakasi products, like jewellery, smartphone stand, buttons, etc., and empowering artisans to realise higher commercial value.
Dhokra jewellery is gaining immense popularity among urban consumers. Concurrent with the ethnic trends in fashion, the craft involves simple tools like pliers and hammers to bend metal wires of varying thicknesses.
Our mentors, well-versed with the world of fashion and contemporary urban trends, will guide our artisans on infusing a modern touch to traditional jewellery.
Bell metal is a hard alloy of copper and tin, usually used in making bells and percussion instruments. Known as ‘Kansa’ in Odiya and Bengali, the craft is traditionally used to create handcrafted utensils and kitchenware.
